Vicken PARSONS, geboren 1957 in Hertfordshire, England, lebt und arbeitet in London. Sie studierte von 1975 bis 1979 an der Slade School of Fine Art in London.
Vicken PARSONS Kunst besteht darin, dass sie dem begrenzten Formen- und Farbenrepertoire der Natur und der Architektur immer wieder neue Variationen abtrotzen kann. Hierin gleicht sie Giorgio Morandi. Und so wie Morandis Arrangements aus zusammengestellten Flaschen eine seit dem Barock nicht mehr gesehene Intensität erzeugen, strahlen auch die mit scheinbar minimalem Aufwand gemalten Bilder von Vicken PARSONS eine enorme Sinnlichkeit aus. Es ist eine Sinnlichkeit der Leere. Eine Ästhetik des Begehrens, die ohne Ziel antwortlose Räume durchquert und im Bekenntnis zur Kargheit und zur ‘Armut’ den visuellen Reichtum eines Nicht-Gezeigten wie ein Leuchten am Horizont erahnen lässt. Ohne den Vergleich überstrapazieren zu wollen, fallen doch auch ein paar Lichtstrahlen der pittura metafisica von de Chirico auf die bescheidenen Holzplatten von Vicken PARSONS. „These paintings do not roar, they whisper,“ hat die Journalistin Rachel Spence über ihre Kunst geschrieben. Vicken PARSONS’ art consists of a ongoing effort to wrest new variations from the limited repertory of forms and color in nature and architecture. In this sense she resembles Giorgio Morandi. And just like Morandi’s arrangements of bottles generate an intensity that has not been seen since the Baroque period, Vicken PARSONS’ paintings, all executed with minimum effort, radiate an enormous sensuality. It is a sensuality of emptiness, an aesthetic of desire that aimlessly drifts through non-echoing spaces. While professing to austerity and ‘poverty’, the artist’s stance allows the visual wealth of something not shown like a light on the horizon to become perceptible. Without wanting to overstrain comparison, there are indeed a few light rays of de Chirico’s pittura metafisica that fall onto Vicken PARSONS’ wooden boards. “These paintings do not roar, they whisper,“ as journalist Rachel Spence has noted about her art.
