Valentin Ruhry's works are in the field of sculpture. He perceives himself as sculptor as well as researcher or scientist. This is made obvious in works like L.R.V (Lunar Roving Vehicle) or U.F.O. where he draws his inspiration from technological achievements or ideas that were visionary one day but now seem antiquated and out-dated. He examines the formal and aesthetic aspects of these objects by copying in a strict and minimalist manner. At times it is a physically measureable quality such as tension, force, friction or the characteristics of light that form Ruhry's work. Light is one of the major themes. The modulation of light's volume is as important as the sculptural process.
